Meat Loaf Michael Lee Aday, known by his stage name Meat Loaf, and songwriter Jim Steinman screamed onto the charts with 1977's "Bat Out of Hell". Fueled by shameless bombast and backseat bravado, they offered emotion-starved, hormone-driven teenagers salvation in the form of operatic, Springsteen-derived mini-dramas. A fallout with Steinman resulted in the longest sophomore jinx in rock history until the duo reunited for 1993's multi-platinum "Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell." He continues to be a great voice in search of a vision.
