Billy Swan American singer-songwriter Billy Swan's career took off when he penned the song "Lovers Please", which was a Top 10 hit for R&B singer Clyde McPhatter in 1962. After playing bass guitar for Kris Kristofferson, Swan signed a solo recording deal with Monument Records and had a No.1 hit on his debut album with the song "I Can Help" in 1974. He topped the charts in the USA, Germany, Australia and had a Top 10 hit in the UK.
