Eddie Cantor
American "illustrated song" performer, comedian, dancer, singer, actor and songwriter Eddie Cantor was a well known face for Broadway, radio, film and early television audiences. His nickname "Banjo Eyes" referred to his elaborate eye-rolling song and dance routines. The Coots/Gillespie classic "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" was first sung on Cantor's radio show in 1934. His own hits include "Makin' Whoopee" and "If You Knew Susie". As an actor, he turned down the lead role in first talking film "The Jazz Singer", but did have a starring role in the 1930 Hollywood film version of "Whoopee!" among others.
